more random text generators, this one doensn't seem to work so well though - the words are too complex

science people

http://pdos.csail.mit.edu/scigen/

really intersting group specialising in context free grammer (i.e. speaking correctly without saying anything - first pioneered by politicians)

you have to read the site to ubderstand what they're doing, it's a really interesting field. on one hand it's funny on the other it's an important critique in the way we interpret and consume information, as regards to source, and rhetoric.
in some ways you could see this being applied to AI in that it is strangely human thing to chat about nowt.
i'm looking into it as the main source fro the artist statements for "goldfish" a collaborative exhibition i'm doing with Pete Shadbolt in April. Artist statements are invariably wank. but annoying necessary, so we thought we'd let a computer do it (or hopefully the goldfish themselves)

brilliant site (although it doesn't seem to work that well) particularly like the random person generator. hours of fun. i've a feeling that the fces are actually a collection of images rather that a set of rules that can create new faces (scripted) which is a bit of a shame but still interesting.

try the ginger test, or badger button or puppy test

bitmap style game. nijas vs pirates.

http://www.8bitrocket.com/portalgame.aspx?portalgameid=93

random game i found while hunting about, the soundtrack should be 8 bit too though and it gets dull fairly quick - a time limit or it speeds up, more ninjas perhaps ? the concept is sound though and it;s quite playable.

darkstar remix machine

music machine, using thieved code from games for actionscript book. uses one of my tracks (personal development) the levels are all a bit weird because of normalise functions and these are tricky to fix. need to sort out the graphics but as a test i think t works well, am really into these sort of sequence devices, be interesting to do this with video, or a more adventurous track.

flash site

amazing site. huge archive of short story/poetry seen through interactive flash (aftereffects?) interface. really worth looking at. not really seen anything like this before. sometimes it gets a little tedious but you have to be in the mood, not really like much else online - it's not a quick gratification thing, its immersive and slows you down. atmospheric use of sound and solid programming.

pib and pog - aardman

can't believe i've not seen this before. absolutely amazing as ever from aardman. genuinely thought it was a kids thing at first, a pastiche but still real. the colours and characters are spot on. reminds me of the best dizzee rascal video embeded here. (aardman have disabled embed). how do they get their characters so perfect? brilliant multiple twists too.

sho patrol

sho patrol from rob blake on Vimeo.

test version of one man and his dog game

this is for the fairytaleproject. my friend pete very kindly wrote me some code to make the sheep walk about so they are more natural and it takes more work to get them rounded up. this has been really difficult to integrate with the original code though, so here is a rubbish version. I'm pleased with the style though. future augmentation will include depth as the sheep get nearer to the bottom of the screen, ai for the sheep, flocking (!! tough!), a timer, scores and levels. all in all its a lot of work and i'm scrabbling in the dark trying to get flash to do what i want.
why does the timer go so strange on the second version round! if anyone can see a solution to this please let me know and i'll send you the .fla

please let us know your thoughts. ta.

animation for eflyer that doesn't work. took ages too. it's cos the lines are too busy.

clip from Dark Star - . just saw this the other night. absolutely amazing.

classic Sci fi film. very low budget, loads of early synthesizers, brilliant models (which are more convincing than CG until very recently), some good acting (hit and miss though).
the astronauts are deep in space and on an old broken ship, the old captain died but his brain is still running in cryogenics, they are blowing up planets before they create supernovas. They've lost interest in alien life forms, and are all going a bit mad. it deals with boredom, apathy, drudging work, humanity in the context of a machine controlled existence, the meaning of life etc etc.

the scene here is the classic phenemology debate with a bomb insistant on exploding.

watch the full film!
